Final Piece of Structural Steel in Place at the New $4.2 B Terminal
Major Construction Milestone at JFK Terminal 6
Vantage Group and JFK Millennium Partners marked a significant construction milestone in our development of JFK Terminal 6, with the placement of the new terminal’s final beam of structural steel on October 1, 2024. Vantage Chair and CEO George Casey and JFK Millennium Partners CEO Steve Thody joined New York Governor Kathy Hochul, elected officials, Port Authority leadership, and hundreds of T6 partners including airlines, concession businesses, and local artists, to sign the beam before it was lifted into place.
A tradition in major infrastructure works, the topping-off ceremony commemorated the safe and on-time delivery of T6 construction to date – particularly the work of 900-plus construction professionals led by our design-build partner AECOM Hunt, who have already invested more than two million construction hours in the terminal.
This milestone marks the latest step in a journey that started in 2018, when Vantage was selected by JetBlue and the Port Authority to deliver a brand new terminal at JFK. The new, $4.2 billion Terminal 6, is set to create more than 4,000 jobs, including 1,800 union jobs, and will host a mix of domestic and international airlines including Aer Lingus, Cathay Pacific, JetBlue Airways, and Lufthansa Group. This redevelopment is not just about transforming JFK into a state-of-the-art gateway but also about boosting economic development and providing job opportunities for communities in Queens and beyond.
