Greater Moncton Roméo LeBlanc International Airport Receives Airport Carbon Accreditation
In May 2016, Greater Moncton Roméo LeBlanc International Airport (GMIA) achieved certification under the international Airport Carbon Accreditation Program. This program, launched in 2009, provides a standard framework for airports around the world to map and reduce their carbon footprint.
By achieving Level 1, GMIA has had their carbon footprint verified by a third party and has committed to reducing carbon emissions going forward. The airport will be working toward Level 2 (Reduction) certification in the near future for which a demonstrated reduction in carbon emissions is required.
Airport Carbon Accreditation is the only institutionally endorsed, carbon management certification standard for airports and it is a global initiative endorsed by Airport Council International (of which GMIA is a member airport).
