John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport Announces Significant Investment in Terminal Enhancements and Expanded Passenger Services

Feb 4, 2025

TradePort International Corporation (TradePort), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Vantage Group, has announced a significant enhancement of the terminal facilities at John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport.

The announcement was made in the presence of airport and airline executives, as well as key municipal, provincial, and federal government leaders, and community stakeholders. This partnership and the planned investments were made possible by a new 49-year management lease signed between the City of Hamilton and TradePort in September 2024. This long-term partnership, which began in 1996, has been instrumental in positioning the airport as a key driver of connectivity, economic growth, job creation, and community partnerships in the region.

The planned terminal enhancements include:

  • Updated exterior frontage with new and expanded canopies to improve curb operations
  • Refreshed terminal interiors, including check-in counters, passenger screening areas, gate seating, and baggage claim
  • Integration of architectural elements inspired by the region’s natural geography
  • New digital signage and lighting upgrades to enhance the travel experience
  • Future additions like passenger jet bridges to connect the terminal directly to aircraft, a first for Hamilton International, and infrastructure upgrades to accommodate expected air traffic growth

Hamilton International was one of Vantage Group’s very first network airports and we have been proud to partner with the City of Hamilton to steward the airport’s management and development over the past nearly 30 years. Through a shared commitment to operating excellence and strategic relationships with many partners, Hamilton International has grown as an important gateway for tourism and business and a critical creator of local jobs and economic impact. We are proud to continue this work with today’s announcement and our new partnership with Porter Airlines.

This initiative is part of a new partnership with Porter Airlines, which will begin offering daily flights from Hamilton to Calgary, Edmonton, Halifax, and Vancouver starting in June 2025. Porter Airlines’ CEO, Michael Deluce, highlighted the unique travel experience Porter will bring to Hamilton, emphasizing their commitment to care and service. The new routes are expected to significantly enhance connectivity for Hamiltonians and support the expansion of Porter’s network across North America.

Mayor Andrea Horwath expressed her excitement about the partnership, noting that it will transform the airport’s passenger service offerings and benefit the community by creating jobs and boosting economic growth. The airport has been a hub for Canada’s largest domestic overnight express cargo service, and the new passenger services will further enhance its role in the region.

This development marks a major investment in the future of Hamilton International Airport, aiming to improve passenger services and support the region’s economic and community growth for decades to come.
